A prototype answers one question. Shipping answers the rest.
Studios builds games and releases them. The prototype proves an idea is worth making. Everything after it is production, certification and the years a live title runs, which is the part that decides whether the game was worth building. Multimedia, meaning content, film and photography, is planned and not yet offered.
What it does
- Prototype
- A playable build that tests the one thing the game rests on. It is built to be thrown away, which is what lets it answer the question honestly.
- Production
- Art, systems and content built to a schedule against a fixed target. The pipeline is set up first, because tooling decided late is tooling paid for twice.
- Certification
- Platform submission, age rating and the compliance pass each storefront requires. Planned as work rather than discovered as a delay.
- Live operation
- Patches, seasons and the long tail after launch. A shipped title is the start of its own maintenance, and it is budgeted that way.
